“Count Your Blessings”
Ellen Hayes
Songs and Melodies Records (release date: March 6, 2026)
By Robert M. Marovich
In a deep-toned and melodic voice, Detroit’s own Ellen Hayes and her background vocalists declare on “Count Your Blessings” that when you are despairing, remember what you already have. The song’s mid-tempo perky arrangement fits the optimistic tone that Hayes and company set from the start.
And what should you be grateful for? Ellen counts her blessings “one by one.” So I decided to check my blessings against her list. Health and strength? (check) Car to drive? (no) Roof over your head? (check) Shoes on your feet? (check) Sound mind? (depends on who you ask, but I think so).
All kidding aside, “Count Your Blessings” is not preachy but encouraging. Its message is that if He did it for you already, He’ll do it again, so don’t fret.
