Releasing a string of hits that took up long-term residence on the gospel singles charts during the past two years, James Fortune & FIYA have a winning formula. “Encore,” from the group’s upcoming third CD, is the latest example of their distinctive sound.
Fortune ministers directly to listeners struggling under the weight of life’s crushing challenges. His message? The same God who brought you out the last time will do it again (i.e., the encore). By the conclusion, Fortune has tightened ranks with the whisperingly-sweet FIYA and together they shepherd the troubled souls into a tornado of sound that explodes into waves of emotion and overcoming. It’s a prayer service concentrated into five minutes.
“God specializes,” Gloria Griffin once posited. “…in repeat performances,” adds Fortune.
