Having received a copy of Kierra KiKi Sheard’s new single, “Praise Him Now,” I expected to hear a high-energy gospel track resplendent with hip hop-inspired polyrhythms, especially since the energetic PAJAM produced.
Was I ever wrong…and pleasantly surprised! Opening with a swirl of strings that sets a prayerful mood, “Praise Him Now” showcases a Kierra whose singing is maturing and growing in versatility and expressiveness. It’s a single that has staying power because of its beauty and distinctiveness.
I wasn’t wrong, however, in expecting nothing less than a stellar production from PAJAM, which Paul Allen and KiKi’s cousin J Moss deliver.
Recording “Praise Him Now” was a good decision for the young Sheard at this time in her career, as it signifies she has the vocal dexterity to make her a tough-to-beat gospel singer in the future.
