Lastly, Gary Butler Sr. informed me that jazz vocalist and now Grammy-winning Best New Artist Samara Joy is the granddaughter of Savettes’ members Ruth and Elder Goldwire McLendon. Her father toured as a bass player with Andrae’ Crouch. Once again, the church proves to be the best music school in the world.
