“Glory”
Dasan Ahanu x Arvetra D. Jones
From the ATMG album [Staw] + [Ree] + [Tel] + [Uh] Vol. 2

By Robert M. Marovich

“Glory” is a spoken word performance by Christopher Massenburg, aka Dasan Ahanu, from North Carolina. The artist offers some real talk on trusting in God’s love and protection, a lesson he learned in part from his grandmothers. No sugar coating on this testimony.

Beats are by Ampursand of the Genius Party. Contributing the swirly background vocals is Arvetra D. Jones, brother of gospel singer Ruth La’ Ontra and son of gospel announcer Arvetra Jones Jr. A breakout solo verse from Jones somewhere in the mix would have added greater variety to the overall arrangement and put a fine point to Dasan Ahanu’s incisive poetry.
