“If It Weren’t for Grace”
Mariee Murphy

By Robert M. Marovich
Plano, Texas, singer-songwriter Mariee Murphy’s “If It Weren’t for Grace” is a salvation story bathed in warm and unobtrusive electronica.
Murphy doesn’t spill the beans on what her sin was, nor does she identify the “filth” that was washed away while she lived in a “wretched world,” but it doesn’t matter now. She has a “new heart” and a “new start,” and sings deliberately and cheerfully to a merry melody. The song has a Jamie Grace vibe to it, falling somewhere in between gospel and CCM.
