Henry Harrison of Down Home Gospel Productions informed me that Howard “Slim” Hunt, leader of the Supreme Angels, passed away Sunday, February 25.
As more information becomes available, TBGB will pass it along.
Meanwhile, a marvelous mini-autobiography of Hunt is available at http://www.malaco.com/Catalog/Gospel/Slim-The-Supreme-Angels/list.php.

That’s very sad news. I had the fortune of being able to see him in concert last month during a Gospel Explosion here in Houston, TX. He was ill at the time, they had the audience pray for him before he came onstage. You could hear his breathing was labored during his singing, he had to sit in a chair for a little bit during the performance, and had Keith “Wonderboy” Johnson who had finshed his act earlier in the lineup to help him out. He’d stated he was supposed to sing in Baton Rouge the next day, but that he would probably go back home to rest instead. I wonder if Houston was his last concert?
“Slim”, as he was so affectionately called, was one of my and my family’s greatest gospel singers. He is truly going to be missed. I’ve been listening to him and the Supreme Angels for years. His guitar player, “Sugar” Hightower, came from our hometown, Valdosta, Georgia. We pray that the family is encouraged during their hour of bereavement and that God keep them in their time of sorrow. Rest in peace, Slim!
Rev. Howard Slim Hunt has been a spiritual enrichment in my families life and we feel like an family member has been called home to glory. We will continue to keep the family in our prayers along with the group that has touched so many lives through their singing (The Supreme Angels). We love you and may God Bless you.

I saw Howard Slim Hunt in April 2006 at the Landmark theater in Richmond, Virginia last year. On that day last year he was on the stage and I didn’t know until than that he was a minister, but he said
some things that touched my heart deep down under and singed a song and the Holy Ghost came down upon me like a feeling that I had not felt in a mighty long time. I will miss him but I will not be lost, because God has instilled something in me now. I have had two back surgerys and I don’t work any more, but it’s not because I don’t want to but because I can’t. I was all excited for the concert in florence south carolina to see Rev. Slim Hunt, but I will miss him but I will not miss his gospel music because I will have a collection of what God wants me to have.We really only live on this Earth for a short time and we really do not realize what or how Blessed we are. My prayers go out to his Family as well as my many Blessings. I’m still coming to the Concert and hope and pray that the Lord will instill something else within. I live in Emporia, Virginia and I am looking forward for the trip ! God Bless !Sister Melinda Moore Murrell

I want to express my sympathy to the Hunt family. I fell in love with Slim the first time I heard his music. Slims’ music was playing when my mother passed, and just like her know that he wouldn’t take anything for his journey right now. Slim has simply moved into the mansion promised to each of us. it is now up to us to Stay under the blood.
I am very sad after hearing of the passing away of Rev. Howard Hunt. It hurts to have found out of his passing so long after. I had said for the last few years that when the Supreme Angels were in the city of which I lived that I would make it my business to speak with Howard. You see, when I was a little girl my oldest brother used to sing with Howard and the Supreme Angels. When they would go to Memphis, Tenn (where I grew up) the group would stay at our house and rehearse. My brother passed away some years ago. But I always remembered Howard Hunt and the Supreme Angels (my brother did not sing with them until his death). I so wanted Howard to meet H.B.’s (Herbert) little sister now that she is all grown up with a family of her own.
The memory of that experience as a little girl will always be in my heart.
Sleep on Howard and take your rest. We all loved you but God loved you best.
