Grammy Award winning artists Edwin and Walker Hawkins, five-time Grammy Award winner Sandi Patty, and five-time Grammy Award winning group the Winans, will be the recipients of the President’s Merit Award at the 2008 Grammy Salute to Gospel Music.
The event will be held tonight, June 18, at the Lincoln Theater in Washington, DC.
The President’s Merit Award recognizes the contributions that key individuals have made in the music industry and the impact their efforts have had on the music business.
The award is an opportunity for The Recording Academy to acknowledge and honor the contributions of these outstanding individuals.
Past honorees include Shirley Caesar, Andrae’ Crouch, Bill and Gloria Gaither, Bill Hearn, Billy Ray Hearn, Richard Smallwood, Albertina Walker, the Clark Sisters, Dr. Bobby Jones and Michael W. Smith.

I am the above named person, 24 years male from Kenya.I am a born again christian who is also an up-coming Gospel Artist who share witness with Christ as the true salvation. I started my gift/ call to serve through songs while in my Primary school age and finally to this moment with much success but failed to reach many that need the word of God through Gospel songs; and this has been my effort and bother all along.
Being incapable to make my dream fulfilled due to lack of funds, i had previously reach some charitable people for support but to no avail. My faith is in God that i was created by Him to serve him and that He has given me the gift of serving Him them i will not sit back till i win the obstacle of finances that may block my way;this is what drives my faith and until i will be done to his praise.
As a servant of God , don’t be surprised to read about this letter and to share together with me the need and fire of praise that is in my heart.The Bible says, when you are full, you will refuse honey but when you are hungry even bitter foods tastes sweet. People save up their money for a time when they may need it, and then lose it all in some unlucky deals and end up with nothing left to pass on to their children; not helping the needy, poor or Gods gospel service. We leave this world just as we entered it – with nothing but what if we support the needy/poor, but only a true charitable believer in Christ can understand these.
I reach you as a friend, not known you before, not having any biological relation with you but only through Christ Jesus. Being financially incapable does not barrier us from serving Christ through our talents and i believe in his provisions.I am looking forward to connect to any touched Friend who can be able to support or sponsor me for the production of my first Album/ CD ” NIFANYE NINI YESU – What can i do to Jesus”.
