“Undefeated”
Carl Brister
From the CD Undefeated
The title track of Carl Brister’s third CD, Undefeated, opens with a playfully insistent piano riff and transitions into a wall of melodious Christian power pop as the singer-songwriter praises the Lord for letting him know that “my afflictions are just momentary, compared to glory.”
Like Jesus, we suffer, Brister sings, but “every tear we cry” purifies us “so we rise undefeated.”  The song is personal:  Brister was the victim of sexual abuse at the age of five by a close family friend, but he has since overcome that oppressive obstacle.  He declares, “Each time I sing, write a song, or boldly go forth to bring God glory in any way, I win over that situation and continue to stand undefeated!”
