The Journal of Gospel Music was saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Pastor Shawn Jones of the Alabama quartet Shawn Jones and the Believers.

Here is the group’s biography, from their Facebook page:

“Pastor Shawn Jones (Formally of The Alabama Spirituals) & The Believers started singing in the year of 2000 at the First Baptist Church in Rockford, AL. They appeared on shows with gospel great like Lee Williams & The Spiritual QC’s, Rev. Andrew Cheers & The Song Birds, Darrell McFadden & The Disciples, Slim & The Supreme Angels, and Dorothy Norwood.

“After a few years they stopped singing due to members going off to college, other ministries, and life in general. But the bible says “There is a time and a season to everything under the sun.” May of 2011 was that TIME! The guys got back together with a bang!!! There gift has certainly made room for them and is bringing them before great men. THE BEST IS YET TO COME!”

More details will follow as they are made available. Meanwhile, let us keep the Believers and Pastor Jones’s family, friends and many fans lifted in prayer.

“Doing what you love and loving what you do…” Is a perfect way to describe the life of Pastor Shawn Jones. As his Family, Church Family, Ministry (Group) and worldwide supporters experience mix emotions, I’m fervently praying for everyone of them. I encourage them all to embrace within their hearts, the fond memories of wonderful times, laughter and great fellowship.

Truly I’m praying for the Jones family! I’m deeply hurt by the passing of Pastor Shawn Jones, I listen to his messages daily, rather it music or sermon, he’s my YouTube Pastor! To his precious wife (Honey) as he would always call her, be encouraged, I’m truly seeking God for you, the kids as well as his dear mother. Words cannot express this feeling I have for you all at this point. Much Love to you all.

I never had the opportunity to attend his church, but everytime I passed his church on Sunday morning, it was a packed house. That’s letting you know this man of God is something special. May his soul rest in peace, and may God be with his loved ones and church family during this time.

As a Pastor myself, we all need encouragement and you surely was and Angel that God had touch and you share it with the world. I will continue to Listen to your sermons online and just thank God for sharing you with the world. To the family, thank you for allowing him to share the gospel with the world. The is very sad and shocking news to the world. A great man of God, a Pastor, a leader and a great Gospel singer is gone in seconds. God doesn’t make mistakes. He’s God the creator of this world. Sometimes he take the best to lead and to guide others. A candle light has been blown out. I loved your ministry. Rest on, take your rest with God. Gone to soon.
