“He Rose”
Rhyme & Reason feat. Robert Copeland
From the Enon Music Group album Number 1 Reason
(release date: April 9, 2022)
By Robert M. Marovich
Apparently the production team of Josh Lay and Morgan Turner, known as Rhyme & Reason, likes religious holidays.
In 2020, they produced a cover of the Angelic Gospel Singers Christmas classic, “Jesus What a Wonderful Child,” featuring April Hall. For Easter, the duo coupled Robert Copeland with Turner’s composition, “He Rose.”
“I’m gonna do like my grandpa and his group used to do,” Copeland announces to the audience, then commences to sing in hip-slapping gospel quartet style. His background singers play the congregation to his preacher as he relates the Resurrection story. By the vamp, Copeland is in full squall, ecstatic beyond measure about the empty tomb as the BGVs chant a vigorous “He got up.”
Grandpa and his group would be proud.
