“Safe”
Summer
Independent (release date: June 28, 2023)

By Robert M. Marovich

The conviction in Summer Pearson’s voice is palpable on “Safe,” a prayer-closet call for protection and a restoration of faith.

That’s because it’s her testimony. A single mother, Summer wrote the song after recovering from COVID and subsequently surviving a car accident. It’s another example of how the worst of circumstances can produce the finest art.

Award-winning producer and arranger Thomas Hardin Jr. gives crisp production to “Safe,” from its breezy arrangement to the sunshiny background vocals. This is a well-written song with affecting singing.

Summer is from Ellicott City, Maryland, where she is a vocal coach, worship leader, actress, and public speaker.
