JGM was saddened to learn of the passing of Evangelist Mother Rubenstein McClure on July 18, 2020.
Mother “Ruby” McClure was a member and lead soloist with the famous Radio Choir of Brooklyn’s Institutional Church of God in Christ, under the direction of J.C. White (“Stretch Out”). Her voice could be heard on the choir’s single, “Talk it Over with Jesus,” among other titles.
She was also a prominent member of the J.C. White Singers, leading the single, “Someone to Lean On” (Zanzee, 1973). Her own solo album, Rubenstein, came out on Locus Records in 1979.
On It’s Me Again…I Refuse to Bow Down, the Reverend Richard “Mr. Clean” White’s 1988 Meltone album with the Friends of Atlanta Chorale, Mother McClure duetted with Rev. White on “It’s Me Again” and “I Want Things to be the Same Way.”
More recently, she worked with Pastor David Wright & the N.Y. Fellowship Mass Choir, and was the featured vocalist for many other artists. She could preach just as well as she could sing.
Mother McClure operated the Rubenstein McClure Ministries and served as State Supervisor of the Southeastern Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ. May she rest in heavenly peace.

Someone just sent me a compilation of voices doing a tribute to Mother Reubeinstein McClure. It was so beautiful whilst singing her favorite hymn — Great is Thy Faithfulness. I’m sorry to hear of her passing. I barely knew her, but I distinctly remember her voice, unforgettable, and never forgot that one time — Hezekiah Walker placed her on his album singing adlibs at the end on a reprise for Grateful. When she finished you had entered in. Amazing voice. My prayers are with her loved ones who miss her and to all of us who have been touched by her ministry perhaps once or multiple times. The work of Kingdom laborers never die.
Mother McClure will be greatly missed. She was a sold out sanctified singer. She blessed God’s people everywhere she preached and sang. She blessed all denominations across the board with her gift. I never saw her act out of character nor dress inappropriately. She was such a humble sanctified vessel. Whenever I need a spiritual pick up, I just listen to her song ” Talk It Over With Jesus”, and my spirit is automatically changed. RIH mother. You were a great example to the younger gospel artist.
