Rev. Joe Williams informed the Journal of Gospel Music yesterday of the passing of Charles Johnson.
Johnson was a gospel quartet singer and recording artist who worked with the Sensational Nightingales and Gospel Consolators, and fronted his own group, Charles Johnson & the Revivers. Johnson died of a massive heart attack in Durham, North Carolina.

Does anyone know who wrote “Until Then” that they sang? Also does anyone know who holds the copyright for it? We need to know for CCLI purposes.
The composer is Quinton Mills.
This is 2020 and we are stilling listening. What a gift these men were to gospel singing
Still loving their songs and music.
Have to say that Charles Johnson and the Revivers were such a blessing and I listen to them on youtube most every day. God anointed them greatly. May they reap the blessings they have sown. I can’t wait to meet them in heaven.
Charles Johnson and the Revivers touched my very soul. Charles Johnson was anointed by the Holy Spirit to usher in the very presence of God. I will never forget him as long as I live. Today when I listen to him sing Holy City New Jerusalem, the Holy Spirit moves me to tears. There will be day when we will all be together and I will hear him sing a new song.
Rest In Peace Mr. Charles Johnson! Your singing was lovely to hear and FEEL! Looking forward to hearing you praise God and our Savior Jesus Christ in the PROMISED LAND! Don Ramsey
Loved the man’s music, and its message. It comes through clearly, Mr. Johnson believed the words he sang. One day in Heaven, he, as we, will join in singing a new song, one that the angels will not be able to sing, a song of redemption and of overcoming. I knew nothing of his personal life. I trust the Lord that he was surrounded by loving family as he escaped this earth’s bonds and transitioned to that better land above that awaits all who are called according to His name and for His purpose. Always, always, blessed be the name of the Lord! Hallelujah!
What a blessing Charles Johnson was. His music with the Revivers is such a blessing to me. You are sorely missed. Will meet you on the other side of Jordon brother.
Oh but what huge message you had in song!!!! I still have some of his tapes. Looking forward to meeting him over in that Fairland !
There was no one like him.
We really enjoyed his music. So spiritual!! I still have cassettes of his. RIP child of God. Prayers for your family.
This group had a great impact on then a little 9 yr old girl in a small town called Morganton NC.I am 48 now and still pull it up and listen. It takes my soul back to a different day and reminds me of being “sealed” when the enemy tries to dim our view. I never met any members but Charles Johnson’s voice still brings instant joy, and reminders of what really counts at the end of the day. What a blessing, and his voice for the gospel is STILL having an impact today.
RIP Charles Johnson.
You have blessed my life greatly with y’all’s ministry.
Just Listen to One night revival tonight on YouTube.
R.I.P.
Ps) I know I’ve been sealed till the day of redemption..
1 Thess 4:16-17
was listening to Chares Johnson and the revivers “time to go back home” – both saddened and happy to hear that Charles is now with GOD ✝️
I discovered Charles Johnson and the Revivers on CD and cassette in the last year (2023). These old recordings continue to be a spiritual blessing to new fans and a younger generation as they get passed on.
