Rev. Joe Williams informed the Journal of Gospel Music yesterday of the passing of Charles Johnson.

Johnson was a gospel quartet singer and recording artist who worked with the Sensational Nightingales and Gospel Consolators, and fronted his own group, Charles Johnson & the Revivers. Johnson died of a massive heart attack in Durham, North Carolina.

Hello, try http://www.pewburner.com – they might have a collection of Gospel Consolators songs from the Peacock Records era. “My Friend Jesus” would be one of them. Good luck!

Does anyone know who wrote “Until Then” that they sang? Also does anyone know who holds the copyright for it? We need to know for CCLI purposes.

Have to say that Charles Johnson and the Revivers were such a blessing and I listen to them on youtube most every day. God anointed them greatly. May they reap the blessings they have sown. I can’t wait to meet them in heaven.

Charles Johnson and the Revivers touched my very soul. Charles Johnson was anointed by the Holy Spirit to usher in the very presence of God. I will never forget him as long as I live. Today when I listen to him sing Holy City New Jerusalem, the Holy Spirit moves me to tears. There will be day when we will all be together and I will hear him sing a new song.

Loved the man’s music, and its message. It comes through clearly, Mr. Johnson believed the words he sang. One day in Heaven, he, as we, will join in singing a new song, one that the angels will not be able to sing, a song of redemption and of overcoming. I knew nothing of his personal life. I trust the Lord that he was surrounded by loving family as he escaped this earth’s bonds and transitioned to that better land above that awaits all who are called according to His name and for His purpose. Always, always, blessed be the name of the Lord! Hallelujah!

This group had a great impact on then a little 9 yr old girl in a small town called Morganton NC.I am 48 now and still pull it up and listen. It takes my soul back to a different day and reminds me of being “sealed” when the enemy tries to dim our view. I never met any members but Charles Johnson’s voice still brings instant joy, and reminders of what really counts at the end of the day. What a blessing, and his voice for the gospel is STILL having an impact today.
