“God is Good”
Powerhouse Fellowship Soul Choir feat. Shawn Cotterell
From the forthcoming Impact Gospel Recordings / IndieBlu Music / MNRK Music Group Album
Reflections (single release date: November 24, 2023)

By Robert M. Marovich

Gospel music is global, and north of the border, in Toronto, Canada, the sacred music standard is lifted by the Powerhouse Fellowship Soul Choir.

Lead vocalist Shawn Cotterell delivers an earnest reading on the choir’s latest single, “God is Good,” a high-spirited mid-tempo gospel complete with false ending and polyrhythmic vamp. If the bouncy arrangement sounds a little like early Hezekiah Walker and Love Fellowship Choir, it’s because the single’s producer is Jules “Juda” Bartholomew, the Love Fellowship Choir’s music director. A decent outing from the Toronto voices.

Formed in 1986 as the Scarborough Church Youth Choir, the ensemble changed its name to Powerhouse Fellowship Soul Choir when the singers grew out of their original moniker.
