“His Job”
Dr. E. LaQuint Weaver II feat. Biblical People
LaQui-Jay Records (release date: October 10, 2023)
By Robert M. Marovich
There’s no time like the present.
That’s what the children of veteran Detroit choir director Dr. E. LaQuint Weaver II felt when it came to recording “His Job,” a song Weaver wrote 22 years ago. So he did it.
As the full-throated Biblical People choir supports him with bursts of staccato lyrics, Weaver reminds the church that when times are toughest, like when loved ones pass away, just let go and let God do his job. It’s a personal testimony—Weaver namechecks Antonio Clark, Dr. Carolyn Cole, and Kevin Lemons (Higher Calling) as three loved ones he has lost. He dedicates the song to them.
The live recording is an eruption of Detroit gospel choir motive force with Weaver singing, shouting, whooping, and exhorting. It is as extroverted and energetic as Weaver himself.
