Starting out placid and tender, the worship anthem “At Your Feet,” the debut single of singer-songwriter Tracy Walker, builds gradually in intensity as background vocalists enter and musicians crank up the volume.

During the vamp, Walker shifts from sweet to raspy to quartet shout—one sonic eruption in particular evokes the Blind Boys’ Archie Brownlee.

Tracy Walker grew up in St. Mark Baptist Church of Memphis, Tennessee, where her grandfather, the Reverend J. C. Bachus, was presiding pastor. Reverend Bachus was also a quartet singer, so we know where her old-school whoop comes from.
