“God’s Power (Worship)”
Minister John Taylor Jr.
From the EP Hymns of Worship (album release date: February 11, 2026)
By Robert M. Marovich
When Minister John Taylor Jr.’s “God’s Power” appeared on the 2020 Ruffboyzmusic Group/Overboard Records sampler The Quartet Power Drive, it had the aura of traditional quartet singing. It was a Pick of the Week for August 3, 2020.
Replacing the quartet with a choir, Taylor has re-recorded the song as “God’s Power (Worship).” His magisterial lead vocal work on this lovely ode to hope would be equally welcome at the Gospel Music Workshop of America as on the Gaither stage. Nearly six years later, the retread is a Pick of the Week, and it hit #51 on iTunes’ Christian Singles Chart earlier this month. Notwithstanding Taylor’s roof-raising rendition, “God’s Power” could easily be learned by gospel choirs. Minister John Taylor Jr. is a resident of Jackson, Mississippi.
