“I Believe”
Gene Moore
from the Motown Gospel EP Introspection (release date: April 14, 2023)
By Robert M. Marovich
On a single oozing with old school soul, gospel crooner Gene Moore endorses the power of believing, especially on the bad days.
Flights of bluesy melisma and leaps of falsetto illustrate the elasticity of Moore’s tenor voice on “I Believe.” The minimal instrumentation ensures that the vocals and the lyrics are front and center, as they ought to be.
The new single is from Moore’s six-track EP Introspection. “I Believe” holds particular meaning for him, as it was the song he sang to his mother just before she passed away.
