Yolanda Adams offers a simmering soulful delivery on “Church Doors,” a selection that in lyric and arrangement evokes Karen Clark Sheard’s 2014 hit, “Sunday Morning,” another unfettered expression of the pleasure of churchgoing.
Adams’s first single in a decade, “Church Doors” is short but it contains excellent singing by the veteran gospel songstress and her dramatic vocal interplay with the choir packs a solid punch. Remixes of “Church Doors” feature Chicagoans J Ivy, Donald Lawrence, and Sir the Baptist.
The song is also available on Sunny Days, Adams’s first album in thirteen years and first offering for Epic Records. The album will be available starting Friday, September 13.
