Recording gospel quartet singing since the late 1970s, the Flint Cavaliers—aka the Cavs—team up with incendiary singers Minister Tim White and Minister Darnell Williams for “My Life.” The new single features traditional hard gospel singing with a satiny R&B arrangement.
The group opens with a rather heavy-handed evocation of walking in Chicago where “murderers and thieves are all around” to illustrate the protective power of prayer and trust in Jesus as ways to navigate the “mean world we live in.” The conviction of anointed gospel singers and a veteran quartet optimizes the impact of the message.
