“You Won It All” Taushey Sias TVL (release date: April 19, 2024) By Robert M. Marovich What sets “You Won It All” apart from other current gospel singles are the playfulness of the piano intro, the island rhythm that drives the lyrics, and Taushey Sias’ sassy staccato vocals. A song of praise, “You Won It All” exudes the joy of gratitude and does more with less than the more bombastic arrangements one finds almost compulsory today. The radio edit is about 90 seconds shorter than the full version, but the song says all it needs to say in that more [...]

There’s a lot to like about “Agree,” the new single by James Johnson Jr.
Love Did It is a concise and personal celebration of the love of Jesus that, through his sacrificial death and resurrection, brings new life.
Similar to Natalie Cole’s “unforgettable” recorded duet with her late father Nat, Trey Sneed collaborates with his late father, gospel artist and record company owner Troy Sneed, on “All Is Well.”
“Share the Load” Eric Lee Brumley From the Old Bear Records album Electric Chair (single release date: March 1, 2024)
“I Know a Man” by Macon, Georgia, singer-songwriter Charles Jones contains lyrical echoes of Brother Joe May’s 1950 hit “Do You Know Him,” but the melody is wholly different.

Mississippi Mass Choir Declaration of Dependence Malaco Records (2014) www.malaco.com By Bob Marovich Halfway through Declaration of Dependence, the Mississippi Mass Choir’s latest album, I realized that the choir has inherited the mantle once worn by the celebrated Thompson Community Singers. Brian Courtney Wilson Worth Fighting For Motown Gospel (release date: January 6, 2015) www.motowngospel.com By Bob Marovich Some singers are songwriters and some songwriters are singers. “God Bless the World" Siobhan Maher Kennedy (release date: May 6, 2022) By Robert M. By Bob Marovich In Mark 6:4, Jesus advises that “a prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown.” This is true, almost to the point of becoming cliché. It rings true for Vernell Payton Jr. “It took a man from Chicago, who did not know me, who I never met, to see something in me [...]
By Bob Marovich The stage curtains opened on JJ Hairston & Youthful Praise as the group was about to introduce its new song and soon-to-become-hit, “Incredible God, Incredible Praise.” Holding the microphone was the song’s creator, Deon Kipping. That wasn’t the way it was supposed to go down. “I didn’t want to lead the song,” [...]
